Day 1: Marrakech to Dades Valley – Mountains, Kasbahs & Scenic Valleys
Journey Through the High Atlas Mountains
Depart from Marrakech early in the morning and ascend into the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters). Along this scenic route, stop at panoramic viewpoints and Berber villages where traditional life continues as it has for centuries.
Explore Aït Benhaddou – UNESCO World Heritage Site
Arrive at the legendary Aït Benhaddou, an ancient mudbrick ksar that has served as the backdrop for countless Hollywood films including Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. Wander through its narrow alleys, climb to the granary for stunning views, and feel the echoes of ancient life.
Visit Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses
Continue to Ouarzazate, the Moroccan “Hollywood,” where you can visit Atlas Film Studios or the historical Taourirt Kasbah. Then drive through Skoura Oasis and the fragrant Valley of Roses, famous for its beauty and rose-infused products.
Overnight in Dades Valley
Arrive in the striking Dades Valley, carved by the Dades River and framed by dramatic rock formations and kasbahs. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a charming guesthouse or hotel.
Day 2: Dades Valley to Merzouga – Through Gorges and Desert Towns
Explore Todgha Gorge – Morocco’s Natural Treasure
After breakfast, travel to the stunning Todgha Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs reach heights of 300 meters. Walk along the riverside path, watch climbers scale the rock faces, and immerse yourself in the peaceful oasis vibes.
Drive Through Erfoud and Rissani
Continue your journey through the arid yet mesmerizing landscapes of southeastern Morocco. Pass through Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops and date palms, and Rissani, a historic town that was once a major caravan trading hub.
Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi Dunes
Arrive at Merzouga, where the vast Erg Chebbi dunes rise dramatically from the desert floor. Mount your camel for a breathtaking trek into the dunes, timing it to witness the sunset over the Sahara—a magical moment of silence and golden beauty.
Reach your Berber desert camp, where you’ll be welcomed with mint tea and Moroccan hospitality. Enjoy a delicious traditional dinner, gather around the campfire for drumming and storytelling, and sleep in your private tent under the blanket of stars.
Day 3: Explore Merzouga – Nomadic Culture and Hidden Gems
Sahara Sunrise and Camel Ride
Wake up early to enjoy the awe-inspiring sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, ride your camel or travel by 4×4 back to Merzouga village.
Visit Nomadic Families
Discover the authentic desert lifestyle by visiting local nomad families living in tents near the Algerian border. Learn about their traditions, resilience, and deep connection to the Sahara.
Khamlia Village and Gnawa Music
Stop at Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa music, an Afro-Moroccan spiritual rhythm performed by descendants of former sub-Saharan slaves. Enjoy a live performance and sip tea with the locals.
Explore Hassi Labied Oasis and Desert Fossils
Stroll through the Hassi Labied palm grove, a traditional irrigation system that sustains crops in the desert. You may also visit a fossil museum or workshop in Erfoud to learn about the prehistoric treasures found beneath the sands.
Second Night in the Desert
Return to the camp for another magical night in the Sahara. Dine under the stars, dance to the beat of the drums, and savor the peaceful silence of the desert night.
Day 4: Merzouga to Marrakech – Back Through the Atlas
Ziz Valley and Middle Atlas Drive
